AGILITY CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Obedience for Agility Instructors: Stephanie Morris, Jane This
is the introductory class here at Desert Sage and introduces the
dogs and handlers to agility. Prior obedience training is not
required but a basic sit would be helpful. The obedience that we
teach at Desert Sage is a little different than formal obedience
classes teach. Foundation training for confident obstacle
performance is the focus of this class. Body language cues,
verbal cues, attention work, distraction training, and beginning
obstacle work is covered in this class. For Dogs 4 months of age
and above. Maximum number of dog/handler teams = 8. Fee is
$120 / 6 weeks per dog.
Agility 101 Instructors: Jane Devlin, Stephanie Morris and
occasionally Michelle Kaptur.
This is the next class after Obedience for Agility. It covers more
thorough obstacle introduction still at low height, clicker training,
and more. Maximum number of dog/handler teams = 8. Fee is
$120 / 6 weeks per dog.
Agility 102 Instructors: Jane Devlin and Michelle Kaptur and
occasionally Stephanie Morris
Agility 102 follows Agility 101 – Obstacles go to full height if the
dogs are ready, handlers start sequencing non complex obstacles,
and dogs should be off-leash by now performing obstacles without
needing to be lured or babysat in their positions. Proofing of
obstacles is really explored in this class. Also introduces more
difficult skills such as the 270, serpentines, and independent
obstacle performance. Front cross and rear cross handling
techniques will be covered. A solid start line/ stay will be
advocated and tested in this class. Maximum teams = 8. Fee is
$120 / 6 weeks per dog.
Novice Level class Instructor: Stephanie Morris
Introduction to course analysis. Class prepares dog and handler
for competition if that is their goal but competition is not necessary
for class admittance. Weave poles (6 and 12) and teeter
performance will be evaluated and worked on extensively in this
class. Maximum teams = 8. Fee is $120 / 6 weeks per dog.(Class
fee reduced to $95 once you have taken three sessions with
Desert Sage.)
Foundation for Competition Agility
Teaches the basic Greg Derrett on the flat exercises that will help
your dog get around a course with no questions as to where
he/she should be. Extensive impulse control work, motivation
training, stationary toy work, restrained recalls, running games,
follow me games, crate games, and how to play will be covered in
this short four week class. Some trick training and clicker work will
be covered as well.
Open/Intermediate Level Competition class
Instructor: Stephanie Morris
For dogs and handlers competing in the Open Level. Distance
skills as well as more difficult handling techniques will be focused
on in this class. Here at Desert Sage we train you to a level above
what you are competing at with the goal that when you trial you
look at the courses and say, “WOW, this is easy- Thank goodness
we train harder than this!”
Masters/ Excellent Competition Class
Instructor: Stephanie Morris
A common description of my courses and class structure is “EVIL.”
This class allows competitors to challenge themselves and their
dogs while keeping it positive and I believe “fun".
International Competition Class Instructor: Stephanie
Morris
For those who aspire to one day compete at an International or
World Team Level. Classes are very challenging and require
distance handling skills.
S.T.A.R. Puppy Instructor: Jane Devlin
Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsible dog ownership will be
the focus of this class for your pups up to one year of age. This
class will also have your pup ready for the Canine Good Citizen
workshop and test.
Canine Good Citizen Workshop and Test Instructor: Jane
Devlin
This workshop will prepare you and your canine to pass the 10
basic manners/skills stations of the AKC Canine Good Citizen
Test. Your Canine need not be purebred. Two Saturdays, let us
know you are interested and we will put you on the list for the next
workshop.
Rally - O Instructor: Jane Devlin
Obedience course with numbered skill stations that encourage
teamwork and are fun. This class is great preparation for the real
world and Jane's Outdoor Adventure class
Outdoor Adventure Class Instructor: Jane Devlin
Practice attention and behavior skills out in the real world, in the
park and on the trail. Various locations are used.
Off Leash Play 'n Train Instructor: Jane Devlin
Learn to read body language (human and canine) to make good
play style match decisions for you dog. Monitoring the energy of a
play session and being able to call your dog out of situations is
essential to safely using Bend's new dog parks.
Dog Scootering Workshop Instructor: Jane Devlin
This class will teach your dog how to run out in front of you and
pull with trail commands. Great training for skijouring and hiking
activities. Excellent exercise.

| DOG AGILITY CLASSES At this time we are also taking names for existing classes. If you are interested in a class let us know and we will let you know when you will be able start a new class with sufficient interest. Many classes have a wait list. You are encouraged to let us know which class you would like to take and we will get you on the wait list and let you know when there will be a class starting. Call Stephanie for upper level class openings. Is there a class you would like us to teach? Suggestions always welcome. Arena Rental The arenas at Desert Sage are available to rent. The rental fee is $5 per dog. Please make sure the facility is left as you found it with equipment and cones put back to their original positions. All arena rentals must be coordinated through Stephanie. |
